30,060 Potential Entrepreneurs in Metro ManilaThe Department of Trade and Industry ? National Capital Region (DTI-NCR) registered a total of 30,060 business names for the first quarter of this year, a 3% increase in new business name applications approved and registered in the metropolis compared to last year. This accounts for all applications received and processed from walk-in clients at the Business Name Registration Center and satellite offices, on-line applications, and courier service. Meanwhile, a total of 48,113 applications were processed from January to March of this year, a 10% increase in business name applications processed from January to March of last year. Assistant Secretary Angel L. Pelayo expressed her optimism on the National Capital Region?s economic growth, with this positive development: ?This means more businesses were set-up and more entrepreneurs are willing to become contributors in the progress of our country?s economy. The National Capital Region is taking the lead in increasing the growth rate of the business sector. This is a good sign?, Pelayo added. Several initiatives undertaken by DTI-NCR explain the increase in business names registered during the first quarter of the year, which is considered the peak season of business name registration. DTI?s clients can go to the nearest satellite offices in their area to file their business name. At present, there are seven DTI-NCR satellite offices locate din the following key cities and municipalities: Manila, Muntinlupa, Las Pi?as, Pasig, Marikina, Quezon City, and Valenzuela. By the second quarter of this year, additional satellite offices are expected to be set up to serve more people. Data also shows that there are more business name applications received via web for the first quarter of this year compared to 2006. There is a total increase of 67%, with 13,153 applications received via the Internet this year, compared to 7,972 of last year?s first quarter. Pelayo also stressed that the Courier Service for Business Name Registration also encouraged more people to register due to the convenience brought by this innovation: ?More and more clients are availing of our courier service in registering their business names. Long lines and long waiting hours can be avoided through this service.? Clients can call 855-8424 to register their business name via courier service. Aside from on-line application, courier service, and the satellite offices, Business Service Centers (BSC) in SM malls are also available to accept business name applications. The following SM branches are open to serve DTI clients: North Edsa, Ortigas, Las Pi?as, Fairview, Mall of Asia, Sta. Mesa, Sucat, San Lazaro, and Manila. DTI-NCR is continuously enhancing and improving its Business Name Registration facilities to deliver more efficient service to its clients. ?We are proud to become an instrument of sustained economic growth by promoting entrepreneurship through our easier and faster way of registering business name.
