DTI-NCR to Expand in Metro Manila

The Department of Trade and Industry ? National Capital Region (DTI-NCR) will open two offices by the 3rd quarter of this year. Entrepreneurs can soon file their business name applications at DTI-NCR Hi-way 54 Plaza in EDSA, Mandaluyong and Park N Ride Lawton in Manila. Strategically located in their respective areas, these new offices are expected to serve more clients. This is due to their high vehicular accessibility and proximity to different modes of transportation such as the MRT and LRT.

Leading the decentralization of DTI-NCR?s frontline services is Assistant Secretary Angel L. Pelayo of the Regional Operations Group: ?The National Capital Region accounts for almost 32% of the total number of businesses registered nationwide annually. With these two new offices to be established in the region, we expect easier and speedier transactions.?

Aside from Business Name Application, consumer complaints can also be filed in these offices. The Legal Affairs Center (LAC) of DTI-NCR receives an average of 100 complaints monthly. Owners of service and repair shops can also file for the accreditation of their establishments in DTI-NCR?s new offices. Moreover, the agency will provide assistance to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) via business counseling, entrepreneurship seminars, and livelihood programs in the said venues.

?Our new offices in Mandaluyong and Manila will offer a wide range of services to the public, and not only business name registration. We really aim to bring DTI closer to our clients because by doing so, we are eliminating red-tape,? Asec. Pelayo said.

Construction of the offices in Hi-way 54 and Park N ride is on-going. They are expected to open by August 2007. (end)
