Taguig LGU to host 3rd Round of Diskwento for Filipino Consumers

The local government of Taguig is set to host the 3rd round of Diskwento, a government-initiated traveling market where manufacturers sell their products at discounted prices along DBP Avenue, FTI Complex, Taguig City on Monday, September 1, 2008.

Spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), this program dubbed ?Diskwento: Presyong Panalo para sa Mamimiling Pilipino? aims to bring affordable basic and prime commodities closer to Filipino consumers to help them cope with the current global food and energy crisis through the mobilization of top manufacturing firms selling their products at a bargain.

Diskwento will be most-welcomed by Taguigeños Taguig City Mayor Freddie R. Tiñga said. In fact, its purpose is parallel to our city?s primary development objective, which is to deliver the best social service programs to our people? he explained.

Some 20 manufacturers would give anywhere from 10 to 70 percent discount on bread, canned sardines, noodles, processed meat products, cooking oil, milk, beverages, toiletries, medicines and other basic and prime commodities.

The National Food Authority and Department of Agriculture will also sell rice and fresh vegetables respectively at Monday?s Diskwento.

Aside from enjoying big discounts, buyers will also be treated with free haircut and massage services; and some sample food products, shampoo, medicines and seedlings will be given to them absolutely for free? According to DTI Assistant Secretary Angel L. Pelayo.

In support of the project, Taguig LGU will provide medical booths for free blood typing and blood pressure check-ups. Information and public assistance services will likewise be provided by local agencies such as: City Civil Registry, Manpower Services, Office of Social Welfare and Development, Agriculture, Business Permits and License Office, Public Employment and Services Office, City Card, Barangay Affairs Office, Youth and Sports and Development.
